In 2016, while in Mexico with my late wife, Christine, I realized I needed to do something different to augment our income. Christine was receiving medical treatment in Tijuana, and although the treatment was efficient, our circumstances prompted me to rethink our approach to business and income.
Rather than returning to Jamaica—where we already operated two businesses, a cooking gas retail store and a deli—we reasoned that we could expand our ventures using the opportunities available online. However, success with the model I envisioned required a website, and at that time, I had no prior knowledge of building one. Determined to learn, I immersed myself in courses on Lynda.com (now LinkedIn Learning) and edX.org, while consuming countless YouTube tutorials.
While in Mexico, I explored ways to earn online and even learned about a contact center position through a Mexican friend. Though I went for an interview, the role for which I was qualified wasn’t available.
One day, during a YouTube session, I stumbled upon a business model that piqued my interest. Right then and there, I was hooked. The idea of making extra money online, from anywhere in the world, opened my eyes to endless possibilities. I became obsessed with learning everything I could about this business model. Despite facing various personal and professional challenges, I successfully built my first website in early 2018.
Since then, I’ve been creating websites, developing professional social media accounts, and leveraging tools like Google to help myself and others. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of assisting small business owners in launching their websites, building their brands, and expanding their online presence.
The business model that captivated me back in 2016 is still one I use today, and it remains a foundation of my online projects. It’s a model that has empowered many individuals to achieve success, and I’m always eager to share my knowledge and experience with others.
In today’s world—where disruptions like the pandemic have highlighted the need for financial resilience—having an online income-generating system is no longer just an option; it’s a smart strategy. Whether as a side hustle or a full-fledged business, the opportunities available online are vast and accessible to anyone willing to take the first step.
I hope my story has shown you that creating an online presence—whether for yourself or your small business—is simpler than it seems. It starts with a single decision to learn, adapt, and grow.
Wishing you all the success in your online journey!
